Answers start with understanding.
When you have questions about your child’s learning, behavior, or development, the right assessment can bring clarity, direction, and peace of mind. At PLACE, we don’t just test—we listen, observe, and connect the dots to help you move forward with confidence.
An assessment (sometimes called an evaluation) is a series of measures used to better understand a student’s unique learning profile. At PLACE, we look at the whole child—their strengths, challenges, and learning style—to identify areas of growth and opportunity. Assessment results give us meaningful insight into how a student learns, how those patterns may impact education, and what supports can be put in place to help them succeed.
An assessment provides data about a student’s learning, attention, and, at times, behavior. Results can validate concerns you may have had and offer clarity about next steps. A thorough evaluation helps guide decisions around school-based supports, such as an IEP or 504 Plan. While PLACE does not provide medical diagnoses, our reports can be shared with healthcare providers when pursuing medical or community-based services, as many assessments are used across settings. Accurate information empowers families to be proactive—because the better informed you are the better you can advocate on your child's behalf.

Testing or IEP Review
Our assessments are grounded in experience, expertise, and a whole-child approach. PLACE evaluations are led by Educational Diagnosticians trained in nationally normed assessments to accurately interpret learning data and guide meaningful decisions, with support from a Speech-Language Pathologist whose expertise is especially critical when evaluating communication and Autism-related needs. We complete evaluations more quickly than school systems or private practices with long waitlists—without sacrificing depth or quality—and we never “check a box.” Each assessment is tailored to fully understand your child’s strengths, needs, and learning profile, with careful consideration of language, culture, and educational impact. Because we work for families—not schools—our evaluations offer an independent, unbiased perspective while prioritizing collaboration with schools to help students receive the right supports as efficiently and effectively as possible.
We guide you through the process in five steps:

Practical Recommendations
Our assessments are designed with one goal in mind: meaningful outcomes—not just a report. We provide a clear understanding of your child’s strengths and needs, along with practical, actionable recommendations that can be used across settings. This includes guidance for school supports such as IEPs or 504 plans, information to share with medical providers, strategies for home, and connections to community resources. Most importantly, we help families move forward with clarity and confidence, knowing the next steps are purposeful and aligned with their child’s success.

PLACE evaluations are educational in nature and designed to support understanding, planning, and collaboration across home, school, and community settings. We do not provide medical diagnoses, participate in court or custody proceedings, or serve as an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) without prior disclosure and agreement.
Testing results are valid for one year. If your child has received testing from another provider within the past 12 months, please let us know so we can select assessments that will yield accurate and reliable results.
Taneisha Lawrence, Parent and Teacher
I am incredibly grateful for the invaluable support and expertise Ms. Shanna LeCount shared to ensure my fifth-grade son, a twice exceptional student, has an Individualized Education Program (IEP) tailored to his needs as he transitions to sixth grade. Her wealth of knowledge in special education has been instrumental in crafting a plan that will best support my son's academic and personal growth. Thank you, Shanna!
Rachel Aberasturi, Special Education Teacher and Parent
Shanna is an incredibly passionate educator and advocate. She is an expert on differentiation and applies this skillset seamlessly when meeting the academics, social emotional, and behavioral needs of every child. She is also the type of educator who goes above and beyond when lesson planning or implementing accommodations. Her relentlessness, attention to detail and creativity is an asset to any school, and as a fellow educator and parent, I would be honored to have her in my children's corner.
Brandy Burns, Parent and Community Member
Not one person in my experience as a community member, parent to a non neuro typical child or friend has exhibited the level of passionate commitment to the needs of children as Shanna LeCount. Shanna has selflessly supported me directly as I pursued ways to best advocate for my child and always reassured me that wanting what’s best for my student was reasonable, warranted and deserved to be heard by the teachers and staff of my child’s school. Shanna created thoughtful classroom designs as a teacher that took many children’s needs into consideration and always made sure to connect with each student on their individual level, never assuming and always learning from their needs. I can’t imagine anyone I’d rather have sitting beside my children as an advocate, teacher or ally than Shanna LeCount.
